Biography
Daniel Folwick - Clarinetist
Daniel Folwick is a passionate clarinetist with a rich background in performance and education. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Clarinet Performance from the University of Oregon, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned clarinetists such as Dr. Wonkak Kim and Michael Anderson. His musical journey began at David Douglas High School, where he studied with Dunja Marcum, and where his dedication to the craft earned him numerous accolades.
Daniel has had the privilege of performing in a variety of prestigious ensembles, including the University of Oregon Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Next, where he served as 2nd Clarinet. His orchestral experience also includes roles as principal clarinet in the MYS Symphony Orchestra and performances with the OMEA All-State Symphony Orchestra and the OMEA All-Northwest Orchestra. Daniel is also an associate member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, where he continues to develop his artistry at a high level.
In addition to his performance experience, Daniel has actively engaged in masterclasses with some of the world's leading clarinetists, including Anthony McGill, Jackie Glazier, and James Shields. These experiences have further refined his technique and deepened his understanding of the clarinet repertoire.
Beyond performance, Daniel is dedicated to music education. He has taught private lessons, led sectionals, and volunteered with local high school band programs, where he is known for his ability to inspire and mentor young musicians. His commitment to teaching reflects his belief in the transformative power of music.
Daniel's achievements have been recognized with several awards, including winning the YMA Concerto Competition twice and placing in the OSAA State Competition for Solo Clarinet three years in a row, with a championship title in 2018.
